The inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax, was born on November 6, 1814, in Belgium. As the son of an instrument builder, Adolphe himself invented a number of instruments for band and orchestra use, including the saxophone. This instrument is a cross between the clarinet, oboe and brass instruments. It is still a popular instrument in bands, orchestras and jazz ensembles.
